Preseason MEAC: @BCUhoops Picked To Finish 6th; Potts Named 1st Team

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman men's basketball finished sixth in the 2016-17 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) preseason poll, and Jordan Potts garnered Preseason First Team All-Conference honors, it was announced today [October 27, 2016].

The Wildcats, who finished fourth in the conference last season with a 10-6 record (14-18 overall) , came in behind, Howard, South Carolina State, Hampton, North Carolina Central and Norfolk State in the preseason poll of conference  head coaches and sports information directors.

Potts, a redshirt senior guard from Columbus, Ohio, was the lone Wildcat player named to the preseason team.

He led the Wildcats in scoring with an average of 16.0 points per game (sixth in the conference) and also had the team highs with 4.3 assists per game (first in the conference) and 1.6 steals (fourth) and 37.7 minutes per game (first).

Potts reached double figure scoring 27 times in the 2015-16 season with 11 games of 20 or more and a career-high 35 points outburst at UCF. His 85 three-pointers were the fifth best single-season total in program history while his 138 assists were the fourth best single-season total.

His post-season awards included the  MEAC's All Conference second team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches District 15 second team and the Box To Row HBCU All-American Basketball Third Team.

Bethune-Cookman opens its 2016-17 campaign on Friday, November 11 against former Dream Team member Chris Mullin's St. John's Red Storm in New York City.
