CSU downs 'Cats 73-62 Despite Forrest's 24-10 double-double

CLEVELAND – Quinton Forrest posted a double-double with career highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds in Bethune-Cookman's 73-62 loss to Cleveland State Saturday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena.

The sophomore from Windemere, Fla. was 10-12 from the field in the second half as the Wildcats went up against the alma mater of Head Coach Gravelle Craig on the home court on the NBA Champion Cleveland Cavaliers.

Brandon Tabb added 18 points for the Wildcats, who dropped to 2-6 with their fifth consecutive loss.

For the Vikings  Demonte Flannigan scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Rob Edwards added 19 points and five assists as Cleveland State (2-5) snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Vikings took the lead in the opening three minutes and used an 8-2 run over the final three minutes of the half to go up 38-24. The Wildcats were never able to get their deficit below double figures in the second half.

Bethune-Cookman returns home to face Jacksonville Monday at the ICI Center.

HEAD COACH GRAVELLE CRAIG

"Cleveland is a special place ..How often do you get the chance to coach against your alma mater. "It was refreshing to practice in the Wolfstein Center (CSU's on-campus facility) … wow, memories. We opened that arena against the Fab Five."

"We get stagnant on offense and times and settle for jump shots...and we're not a jump shooting team. We need to be in attack mode. "

"We've actually been rebounding well and going up against teams bigger than us. I'm happy with that."

"We have to clean up our free throw shooting to be a good team."

QUINTON FORREST
"Started off slow. I had jitters and was so excited. Once I settled down, I was okay.

"Flannigan was a man among boys. It was a good experience for us to go up a senior big."

NOTES:  Forrest has reached double figures four straight games...Tabb had his string of five 20-point games snapped…B-CU's 5 three-pointers matched the season lows against St. John's and Samford; Cleveland State's 4 three-pointers and 21.1 three-point shooting were second lowest for an opponent… The Wildcats' four steals were also a season low… Two days before, B-CU alum Eric Lewis was in this building officiating the Cavs-Clippers game..B-CU's two active Ohio players -- Houston Smith and Ulmer Manzie -- logged first half-minutes coaches from Columbus' Africentric HS in attendance. Manzie had a season-high six rebounds.
