DAYTONA BEACH, Fla – Bethune-Cookman women's basketball escaped its second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game, as the Wildcats took down Morgan State, 50-48 to remain perfect in league play, Saturday, Jan. 7 at Daytona State College.
It was all Morgan State during the first stanza as the Bears never trailed.
Heading into the first break, BCU trailed 12-7, while committing nine turnovers in ten minutes.
After the break,
Chasimmie Brown scored six-straight points taking the 13-12 lead 1:15 into the second quarter.
Heading into the half the Wildcats took a 29-21 lead after outscoring Morgan State 22-to-9 in the second stanza.
Brown led BCU with eight points, tailing by
Ashanti Hunt's six points while on the defensive end
Taylor Houston collected four boards and
Kailyn Williams added three rebounds and three blocked shots.
An even third saw each team score ten, with the Wildcats on top 39-31 after 30 minutes of action.
Up one, with 23.1 seconds left in the game
Kailyn Williams' hoop-and-harm put the Wildcats up four before Morgan State's Zuri White banked in a three ball with 10.7 left to cut the lead back to one.
The Bears fouled
Angel Golden on the inbounds, as she connected on one foul shot and BCU held onto the 50-48 victory.
Kailyn Williams finished with her second double-double of the season, collected a team-best 12 points and ten rebounds while picked up her season-best seven blocked shots.
The Wildcats return to the hardwood on Monday, Jan. 9 as Bethune-Cookman hosts Coppin State at 5:30 p.m., in the ICI Center on the campus of Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida.
