@BCUWBB Dominates Coppin to Remain Perfect at Home

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – During Bethune-Cookman's final game in the ICI Center, the Wildcats dominated Coppin State, finishing with a convincing 71-52 victory to remain unbeaten at home and in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play, Monday, Jan. 9 on the campus of Embry Riddle in Daytona Beach, Florida.  

Sophomore Ashanti Hunt earned a career-best 18 points for the Wildcats finishing with a team-best 18 points while shooting an impressive 7-for-9 from the field (.778).

The game started with a technical foul on the visiting Eagles, as Kendra Cooper connected on one-of-two foul shots before the opening tip.

After Coppin State saw its only lead of the game at the 9:32 mark in the first, the Wildcats used a seven-point advantage in the first ten minutes of action, leading 20-13.

At the half, BCU took a 37-28 lead into the locker room headed by Ashanti Hunt's 15 points, while Kailyn Williams added six points, four boards, four blocks and three assists.

After thirty minutes of action, BCU led 55-40.

At the 8:46 mark in the fourth, a Keena Samuels technical foul sent Cooper back to the line for BCU giving the Wildcats a 20-point lead (60-40).

The lead swelled for BCU after a Hunt hoop-and-harm at the 7:08 mark pushed the Wildcats up, 65-40.

BCU went up by a game-best 41 at the 4:25 mark after a Chasimmie Brown layup made the score 71-40, the Eagles still looking for their first bucket in the quarter.

The Wildcats kept momentum for the remainder of the game, finishing with their largest victory of the season, 71-52.

In addition to Hunt's18, Cooper and Armani Walker added ten points each, Brown finished with nine points and a team-best nine rebounds while Kailyn Williams added six points, five rebounds and five blocked shots.

Bethune-Cookman returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 as the Wildcats travel to Orangeburg, S.C., facing South Carolina State at 2 p.m.
