[DAY 2 RESULTS]
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's Victor Bravo and
Phatsimo Ruele remained unbeaten in singles play after the second day of the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational Saturday at Florida Tennis Center.
Bravo downed St. Leo's Bruno Abic 7-5, 3-6 (10-8) on Saturday while Ruele defeated Stetson's Megan Horwitz 6-2,7-5 as both took the lead in their respective round robin flights.
Though both dropped a double match, the play of both gave Head Coach
Val Villucci something to look forward to in the upcoming spring season. The men's team is looking to rebuild after a 1-18 campaign while Ruele is coming off a 2-12 freshman
season, but finished strongly with a win at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.
'Victor really showed a lot of mettle today and that impressed me," Villucci said. "He had a tight match with a lot of distractions, but he managed to stay d mentally strong and that was the difference.
"Phatsimo's time has come," Villucci said. "She lost a lot of tough matches last that were close, but she's turned the corner.
Senior
Alejandra Vidal dropped her first singles match of the tournament, but at 2-1 is still alive in her flight. She and Ruele are 1-1 in doubles play. Rehanna Butt withdrew due to injury after winning one match.
The final day of the tournament in Sunday with a 9 a.m. start.
