Three Score 20, But Wildcats Fall 90-87 to BU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Brandon Tabb scored 23 points, Malik Maitland 22 and Isaiah Bailey 21 in Bethune-Cookman's 90-87 loss to Boston University Friday night in Historic Moore Gym.

Boston's Eric Johnson hit the go-ahead three-pointer with 23 seconds left, then added two free throws with nine seconds left as the Terriers (4-4) handed the Wildcats (4-5) their first home loss in four games this season.

Bethune-Cookman trailed 77-70 with 5:25 left, but managed to take the lead at 85-84 on Bailey's three-pointer with 1:21 left and again at 86-85 on a Maitland free throw with 43 seconds left.

Soufiyane Diakite and Shawntrez Davis each scored 10 points for the Wildcats. Tabb had 15 points and Maitland 12 in a first half that saw Bethune-Cookman take a 40-32 lead on two Isaiah Bailey free throws with 5:26 left, but concluded with a 44-44 tie after Boston closed the half on a 12-4 run. Nick Havener led Boston with 17.

HEAD COACH RYAN RIDDER

"We have a team that competes, but now we have to turn the corner and find ways to win. We're right there, and we're ready to jump that hurdle."

"To be brutally honest, not having Shawntrez down the stretch was tough for us. He dominates the paint and they had two very good post players. " "We know Brandon can score, and he scored the ball at clip, but I was more impressed with his overall game." "Isiah was assertive going downhill and attacked the paint."

"Moore Gym has one of the best college basketball atmospheres in the country. Love the Bethune-Cookman faithful.

NOTES: Maitland registered a career-high scoring night while Bailey matched his; he also scored 21 at Rio Grande … Davis played a season-low season 16 minutes, hampered by foul trouble … Boston finished shooting 64.8 percent from the field- the best for an opponent season while B-CU's .500 was its third-best total … Maitland has been in double figure scoring the past three games … In the crowd was former head coach Tony Sheals.
