LONGWOOD, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Men's Golf won a one-hole playoff on Tuesday afternoon, while
Daniel Brennan did the same to claim the team and individual title at the Stetson Legacy Intercollegiate. The three-round, two-day event was housed at The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes in Longwood, Florida.
After firing a final round 299, Bethune-Cookman (289-288-299=876, +12) stood tied with Florida Gulf Coast (293-287-296=876, +12) after 54 holes of competition.
The two teams went to a five-man playoff, with the Wildcats coming out victorious after one hole.
Additionally, senior
Daniel Brennan (71-67-76=214, -2) fired a season-low two-under par for the tournament to capture the individual medalist award after one playoff hole against Florida Atlantic's Sully Zagerman (70-70-74=214, -2). For the Shannon, Ireland native, the victory was the second in his last three events dating back to the fall season.
Bethune-Cookman sophomore
Christian Hovstadius (79-73-70=222, +6) finished as the second-leading scorer for the Wildcats as he finished tied for 14th in the field.
Playing in just his second collegiate tournament, freshman
Jake Lane (70-75-79=224, +8) finished tied for 23rd in the field after opening with a 2-under 70 scorecard in Monday's first 18 holes.
Marcus Sundlof, fellow Sweden countryman to Hovstadius, tied for 29th in the field on rounds of 74, 73 and 78, respectfully. He would use a 9-over par scorecard for the tournament.
The final golfer for the Wildcats in the event was senior
Connor O'Brien (74-79-75=228, +12) who was tied for 37th overall on the final leaderboard.
Keiser University finished seven strokes back of BCU and FGCU to finish third on the team leaderboard.
Bethune-Cookman Men's Golf is back in action Thursday when the Wildcats host the BCU Gary Freeman Invitational at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. The two-day event is 54 holes on the Hills Course.
