COLLEGE STATION, Tex. -- Bethune-Cookman's
Quamecha Morrison tied for tenth place in the high jump Friday at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Texas A&M.
The junior from Beauford, S.C. cleared 5'9 ¼ to advance and remained alive with a jump of 5'11 ¼ on her final attempt at the height.
Her evening came to an end when she missed all three attempts a 6'0 ½ .
"Everything doesn't always go your way," Morrison said. "I'm just extremely grateful and blessed that I had this experience with the best coaches in the world and the support I had along the way. This will not be our only trip to nationals."
"She remained poised but just clipped a couple of great attempts," said B-CU Head Track Coach
Donald Cooper. "I'm excited for what's in store for this young lady. Hats off to Coach [
Tyree Price] Â for continuing to a great job with the jumpers."
Morrison  won her second consecutive Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship in the high jump last month.
B-CU has now had three different athletes in three different jump events in three  consecutive years at NCAA Indoor Championships:
Kenneth Fisher competed in the 2016 long jump and
Michael Tiller the triple jump last year.
"It was a successful meet for us," Cooper said. "Great publicity for the University on a national level. The opportunity to create history for the women's program was monumental."
