GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's performance Friday at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational at the University had a lot to do with the competition.
The Wildcats had eight season bests, a few Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference bests, and
Kareem Fair flew again as B-CU began a two-meets-in-two-days stretch at the University of Florida.
"We were able to take advantage of the competition," said Head Coach
Donald Cooper. "We're getting better each week and that's important when you're in a conference as strong as the MEAC. Hats off to everyone for making the most of the day."
Fair only finished 12
th in the 100 meter dash, but his time of 10.22 clipped last week's 10.25 at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic that put him in the top 10 in the East Regional and top 15 of the nation.
So it went for many other Wildcats:
Jonathan Moore's runner-up time of 1:48.29 in the 800 was .04 off his personal record and was the fastest in the MEAC this season.
Freshman
Monae Nichols finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20'8 that was the best for both B-CU and the MEAC.
Jonina Brinson was eighth in 19'8 ¼".
Quamecha Morrison improved on her 100 hurdles with a season best 13.71
Jamaz Richardson's 23'6" long jump was a B-CU season best.
JaiQuan Earls had a 22'9" as the Wildcats placed third and fourth, respectively.
In the 800,
Tatyana Hodnett took fifth with a Wildcat season-best of 2:13.88 and
Asia Joe was ninth in 2:16.22. Â
Daniel Kiptoo's 3:57.35 in the 1500 was a B-CU season-best, as was
Caleb Okwaraji's fifth in the 400 hurdles at 52.82 and
Sade McCreath-Tardiel's 11.5 100 meter dash.
