Nichols' 100 hurdles, Brinson's 11.59 100 Highlight Day 2

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Forgive the racing cliché, but Monae Nichols and Jonina Brinson were on a fast track – literally and figuratively -- Saturday morning.

Nichols smashed her personal record in the 100 hurdles by over a second while Brinson put herself in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference 100 meter championship discussion at the Embry-Riddle Spikes Classic.

A freshman, Nichols clocked a 13.85 that lead four Bethune-Cookman hurdlers in the top seven and also clipped her previous best of 14.98 set three weeks ago at UCF. Nichols also was part of a victorious 4X100 relay team and was fourth in the 100 (11.84).

Brinson won that 100 in 11.59 seconds – her best time of the season and also the MEAC's second-best time behind Bethany White of North Carolina Central (11.41). She was also on that 4X100 team and took second in the 200.

"Nichols is finally meeting my high expectations of her in the hurdles. So much upside with this young lady," said B-CU Head Coach Donald Cooper. "Brinson executed the positions that we have been working on but still has a lot of work to do to reach the goals we set. Big improvement this far."

It was a good day for the Wildcat sprinters – Jordan Williams won  the 200 (21.39) and the men also had success with their 4X100 team. Quamecha Morrison took the 200 in 23.61.

Over  in the field events, Jeremiah Peters  concluded a successful weekend with his second event victory in the discus, and did it by besting his PR by over five feet with a heave of 156'10.  The junior from Cleveland is already ranked number one in the MEAC in the discus.

"It was a pretty good weekend for us," Cooper said. "The athletes executed some things we have been working on and I'm very excited about that."
