EUGENE, Ore. -- Bethune-Cookman's two individual men's competitors and relay team at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field National Championships fell short of advancing Wednesday at Historic Hayward Field.
Sophomore
Jordan Williams finished 22nd in the 400 meters (46.49) while senior
Jonathan Moore was 18th in the 800 (1:50.66).
Both also ran on the 4X400 relay team along with
Christopher Jackson and
Caleb Okwaraji that finished 22nd with a 3:13.44.
Moore was in second place after the first of two laps, but was overtaken in the final 200 meters of his heat.  Bryce Hoppel of Kansas won the heat in 1:46.90 and had the fastest time of the day ahead of NCAA record holder of Michael Saruni of UTEP, who clocked a 1:46.98.
Williams' heat included Southern Cal's Michael Norman, the world indoor record holder in the event. Norman won the heat in 44.66.
Georgia, literally a one-man show after Denzel Comenentia swept the hammer and shot put, leads the team standings after the first day.
Thursday will see Bethune-Cookman's only women's competitors -- the 4X100 relay team.
