READING, Pa. -
The 19th-ranked Bethune-Cookman Wildcats concluded day one of the Fifth Annual
Kutztown University Invitational on Friday at the Heister Lanes in Reading, Pa.
The event is being hosted by Kutztown University.
The Wildcats of
Bethune-Cookman claimed two big wins against Salem International (726-475) and No.
8 Adelphi (767-728) to begin their six-game Baker slate on Friday.
The losses came in
succession against four NTCA ranked opponents from No. 10 Kutztown, No. 5 Fairleigh
Dickinson, No. 11 St. Francis (Pa.) and No. 12 Sacred Heart, respectively.
Bethune-Cookman
went just 2-4 on the opening day of the three-day event, registering a total
pin fall count of 4,412. That total currently has the Wildcats sitting in 16th
position out of 28 teams with lots of bowling yet to come.
This year's KU Invitational field includes Adelphi, Cheyney (Pa.), Coppin State,
Delaware State, Farleigh-Dickinson, Florida A&M, Howard, Kutztown, LIU,
Maryland Eastern Shore, Medaille College, Monmouth, Morgan State, New Jersey
City, Penn State-Altoona, North Carolina Central, Norfolk State, Sacred
Heart, Salem International, St. Francis (Pa.), St. Francis-Brooklyn University,
Stephen F. Austin, St. Peter's, Southern, Valparaiso, Vanderbilt, and
Wisconsin-Whitewater.
The action
resumes Saturday for Bethune-Cookman at 9:30 a.m. The day's schedule includes six
traditional team matches, and Sunday will conclude the tournament with three
best four-of-seven Baker matches position round bracket style starting at 8:30
a.m.
