Women's Basketball Game Day: Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. - The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats  (12-14, 7-7 MEAC) are at the midpoint of their regular season-ending road swing, traveling to HU's Convocation Center to face the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference's (MEAC) top ranked and undefeated Hampton Lady Pirates (23-5, 14-0 MEAC).

Notes About the Hampton Lady Pirates

The Lady Pirates have earned their third consecutive MEAC regular season title after 14 straight wins, on the strength of four players averaging double figures.

Leading the group, forward Keiara Avant averages a double-double of 16.2 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, while also topping the squad with 2.5 steals per outing, and 17 double-doubles on the season.

Junior guard Nicole Hamilton chips in 12.3 PPG and 4.9 RPG, with 2.4 SPG and a team-high 1.4 blocks, despite her smaller stature. Hamilton is also one component of HU's perimeter attack, putting in 1.5 threes per game, spreading the ball around with 5.4 APG. Senior guard Olivia Allen is the other part with another 1.5 threes per outing, aiding her to 11.7 PPG. Junior forward Alyssa Bennett rounds out the group with 10.1 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 1.8 SPG and 1.2 BPG.

The Lady Pirates spread the ball around, averaging 13.3 assists per contest, utilizing significant experience and 4.5 threes per game.

Notes About the Lady Wildcats

B-CU is looking to play spoiler for the league's top team, a feat Vanessa Blair's squad has accomplished as recently as 2010-11, when they were the lone conference team to defeat Hampton.

To overcome the Lady Pirates, B-CU will look for a high-scoring affair from Chastity René Taylor, who logged a career and team season-high 27 points last Monday against Savannah State, the second-highest (tied) scoring performance for B-CU in the past 10 seasons. The junior averages 14.2 PPG, 1.9 SPG and 2.5 RPG.

Also a capable scorer, Terrenisha Hollis puts up 8.7 PPG and 5.5 PPG, leading the team with 2.1 SPG, in addition to 1.2 BPG. Center Amanda Hairston will need a strong performance inside, building on her 8.1 PPG and 6.3 RPG, leading the team with 1.2 BPG. Point guard Shakeyia Colyer chips in 6.6 PPG and 4.1 RPG, with 2.4 APG.
