DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman softball opens its 2015 home slate Wednesday, March 11 as the Wildcats (5-19) play host to the Butler Bulldogs (6-7) in doubleheader action beginning at 2 p.m., at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach, Florida.
Wildcat Facts
Freshmen Mariah Davis leads the B-CU squad, batting a team-best .325, collecting 25 hits on 77 at bats. Senior Calesha Shelly trails (.307) adding 23 Wildcat hits on 75 at bats with two triples and five stolen bases.
Sophomore's Sabrina Anguiano (3-15) and Bailey Conner (2-4) have split time on the mound while Anguiano boosts a 5.27 ERA and Conner 5.45. The duo has fanned a total of 66 batters with 43 and 23 respectively.
Rookie Nereyda Gutierrez and junior Sophia Ortega earned All-Tournament Honors at the Charleston Challenge during opening weekend.
Ortega was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week while Anguiano earned MEAC Pitcher of the Week and Gutierrez Rookie of the Week (Feb. 9).
Sophomore Bailey Conner earned MEAC Pitcher of the Week honors (Feb. 23) while freshman Mariah Davis earned Rookie of the Week (March 2).
Scouting the Bulldogs
Junior Alex Kotter leads Butler's offensive force batting an impressive .541 with 20 hits on 37 at bats. The junior shortstop has collected two doubles and three homers during the Bulldogs 13 games, with a .838 slugging percentage.
With a deep pitching staff five Bulldogs have seen action in the circle for Butler. Junior lefty Kristin Gutierrez (3-4) leads the Bulldog pitching staff with six starts and eight appearances, posting a 4.54 ERA with 17 strikeouts.
