Softball Opens MEAC Play Hosting Savannah State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman softball  welcomes league foe Savannah State to Sunnyland Park as the Wildcats host a weekend three-game series to open Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play. The series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday, March 25 starting at 1 p.m., followed by a single game Saturday, March 26 at noon.

Wildcat Facts

  • Sophomore first basemen Iesha Waters currently leads the Wildcats with a . 364 average at the plate, collecting a MEAC fifth-best 28 hits and a team-best three home runs.
  • Freshman hurler Deidra Genera currently leads the Wildcats with a 3-6 overall record and 3 . 9 6 ERA, including 34 strikeouts in 13 apperences.
  • The B-CU pitching trio (Genera, Sabrina Anguiano and Bailey Conner) has combined for 98 strikeouts with a 5.21 overall ERA.
  • Rookie duo Brianna Sanders and Deidra Genera collected the MEAC's first weekly honors (Feb. 15) after earning Rookie of the Week and Pitcher of the Week respectively.

Scouting the Tigers

  • Senior first baseman Torrian Wright leads the Lady Tigers with a .452 (19-for-42) batting average and has recorded 11 runs scored, seven doubles, two home runs and 12 RBIs with a slugging percentage of .762 and an on-base percentage of .647
  • The Tigers enter the contest having dropped their last four games.
  • Freshman pitcher Kasie Johnson leads the team with a 2.03 ERA  giving up nine earned runs on 28 hits in 31.0 innings pitched with 11 strikeouts, two complete games, including one shutout.
