The last time Bethune-Cookman played a Circle City Classic, the Indianapolis Colts were breaking in some rookie quarterback named Peyton Manning.
Â
That's a loooong time.
Â
Chances are, most of us except for women's basketball alum Lyndsey Edwards haven't been to Indianapolis in quite some time. If you arrive early before Saturday's kickoff against Howard, here's some places to check out.
PLACES TO SEE
Â
Indianapolis Motor Speedway – We have an awesome Speedway here in Daytona Beach. They have the just as iconic home to the Indy 500 each Memorial Day and the Brickyard 400 NASCAR shinding each August. There a museum offering tours where you can kiss the yard of bricks at the finish line just like the race winners and take a lap around the track. You can also step inside the museum to see winning cars from the past 100+ years.
Â
White River State Park –  Here's what makes Indy unique. It has a state park in the center of the city AND a canal that runs through downtown. The Central Canal makes it way through White River State Park, where you can hop on a kayak or paddle boat. Seven different points of interest are in or around the park including the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, Indiana State Museum, thw NCAA Hall of Champions, a concert venue and Victory Field baseball park.
Â
Cultural Trail – Five years ago, Indy took out one lane of vehicular traffic to make way for an eight-mile trail connecting the city's Cultural Districts. An extensive collection of art dots the trail that many bike or scooter through.
Â
PLACES TO EAT
Â
St. Elmo Steakhouse – the city's most iconic restaurant. The Travel Channel deemed St. Elmo's shrimp cocktail as the world's spiciest dish. The steaks are also considered top-tier.
Â
Bru Burger – Locals consider this spot the best burger spot in Indy featuring some "intense" twists on the burgers and always made to order.
Â
The Eagle – Also on Massachusetts Avenue, this place is considered one of the best patio dining spots in town. Best known for chicken and an amazing sweet potato casserole and spoon bread.
Â
Long's Bakery – What Krispy Kreme is to Daytona Beach, this place is to Indy for doughnuts, according to Ms. Edwards.
Â
PLACES TO SHOP/ENTERTAINMENT
Â
Massachusetts Avenue – In addition to the restaurant, this is the area for all the boutique shopping and clubs
Â
Circle City Mall – Downtown mall.
Â
Oh, yeah, since Manning IS old enough to have a statue, he does have one in Indy, and you'll see as you go into Lucas Oil Stadium on the South Street side.
