DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Angel Golden scored a career-high 29 points as Bethune-Cookman fended off Maryland-Eastern Shore 73-61 Saturday for its tenth consecutive victory and 20th Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season victory Saturday afternoon.

After Maryland-Eastern Shore closed to 62-61 on Martha Thompson's three-pointer with 2:40 remaining,  Golden sank consecutive three-pointers as Bethune-Cookman (18-4, 10-0) closed the game with an 11-0 run. The junior from Tampa was 6-12 from three-point range and also had six rebounds and five steals.

Freshman Amaya Scott scored 12 points and Chasimmie Brown 11 for the Lady Wildcats, who opened up a 46-33 lead with 4:34 remaining in the third  quarter on a Golden three-pointer, but could never put away the Hawks (7-16,4-7) until late.

Senior point guard Emily Williams posted nine points and a career-high 12 assists, while senior Lyndsey Edwards' stat line included career-highs of nine rebounds and five assists in addition to her five points.

Ciani Byrom had 12 points for the Hawks, who were the only team to beat Bethune-Cookman in league play last year.

Bethune-Cookman hosts North Carolina Central Monday.

HEAD COACH VANESSA BLAIR-LEWIS

"We knew tonight would be a dogfight. Maryland-Eastern Shore always plays us tough."

"We wanted to redeem ourselves tonight. When it got tougher, our ladies got tougher."

"Credit to Maryland-Eastern Shore's players for taking it after us. We just stepped up and made big plays."

"Angel shooting that second three over their post player was clutch. We just depended on Angel tonight. Not just on offense, but defense."

"Emily kept finding the right people at the right time."
"I can't say enough about what Lyndsey does for us on the defensive end. Every thing from an offense standpoint is just a bonus."
