The University of North Florida proved to have too much hitting power on Wednesday afternoon as they pushed past visiting Bethune-Cookman University on scores of 17-1 and 8-0 in Jacksonville, Fla.
The Wildcats gave up 10 runs in the opening inning of the first game, and that all but summed up the entire day for Bethune-Cookman (13-22).
UNF (23-14) first baseman Heather Hyde hit two homeruns in the game, while teammate Gwen Williams collected a homerun shot as well.
With the Ospreys leading 10-0 after the first inning, they went on to use a triple from Gwen Williams and shortstop Ashley Parenteau to push six more runs across in the third frame.
B-CU jumped on the board in the top-half of the fifth inning as the Wildcats finally got to UNF pitcher Devyn Findley.  B-CU senior catcher Andrea Thomas plated pitcher Lanaya Jenkins with a single, after Jenkins collected a double to start off the inning.
Three of the Wildcats four hits off Findley came in the fifth inning.  Findley went the distance for the Ospreys giving up just the one run on four hits in five innings.  She struck out eight batters as well.
With the win, Findley upped her record for the year to 10-2, while B-CU's Jenkins dropped to 7-15.  Jenkins gave up just seven earned runs while striking out four batters.
Ariel Robinson and Christina Trimble also collected hits for the `Cats.
In the second game, UNF broke open a tight game in the second inning with five runs that proved to be the turning point.
Heather Hyde of UNF walked to start off the inning before eventually scoring on an infield error by the `Cats.
Lauren Pulling went on to collect two RBI with a single that plated Mallory Butler and Kelli Rutenbar.
Jenkins allowed just seven hits in the second game even though she went the entire first game for the `Cats in the pitcher's circle as well.
Tori Ahern, on the other hand, allowed just two hits for the Ospreys as she went five innings and striking out three batters to just one walk allowed.  She took the win to improve her record to 5-4 on the season.
Jenkins took the loss for B-CU to drop her down to 7-16 on the year.
In the second game, it was first baseman Brandi Holley collecting one of the two hits for the Wildcats, while teammate Breanna Shaw collected a hit as well for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats get right back to the diamond tomorrow when they play host to local opponent Stetson University from the western half of Volusia County.  The contest is a single-game affair at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach with a 4 p.m. start time.
