The Florida Atlantic Owls (2-2) defeated the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats (1-2) Tuesday night at the FAU Arena in Boca Raton Florida 83-69.

B-CU played strong in the second half, but struggled in the first half, leading to an 11-point halftime deficit that they could never overcome.

“We got off to a very slow start; we dug a hole that we were never able to come back from effectively,” said Coach Vanessa Inge of the loss. “FAU was a very good team, so they kept their foot on our neck every time we got a chance to run, and it was hard to dig ourselves out of that hole.”

The Wildcats played virtually score for score with the Owls in the second half, with scoring at 49-46 in favor of FAU.

“We played really tough in the second half,“ commented coach Inge, “and once we realized that we could get back on track and play with them, we played with more confidence and played a better game.”

Keturah Newkirk was close behind at 20, knocking down five 3-pointers in the second half. Sarah Bolden snagged 12 rebounds and finished with 9 points.

Bethune-Cookman Women's Basketball returns to action Friday against Wofford at 3 p.m. The game is presently scheduled to be the home opener in Moore Gymnasium for the 2008-09 season. Check back at www.BCCathletics.com for updates on the game location.
