Chicago State's Holston Leads Cougars to 79-64 Win Over Wildcats In Chicago Invitational Third Round game

Chicago State's 5-4, cat-quick guard David Holston scored 34 points hitting 7 three-pointers leading the Cougars (3-2) to a 79-64 win Friday afternoon over Bethune-Cookman University.

The Cougars led 41-20 at halftime and led by 31 points in the second half before a spirited B-CU comeback closed the score to 11 points (69-58 with 5 minutes to play). B-CU would get no closer and Coach Clifford Reed Jr. using a different lineup in the second half - liked what he saw of his  Wildcats in the second 20 minutes.

"We put in players who played with energy and who want to play and compete and especially players like Kevan Creppy, Tobias Mahone, and Stanley Elliott," said Reed. "Chicago State's Golston is a very good player. I watched him against Marquette University and he was the best guard on the court.  We will continue to play those players who want to play hard, play with energy and some are young and they will make mistakes - but I would rather see the effort and competiveness."

In the second hald, B-CU shot 15-29 FG (51.7%) after hitting only 7-35 (20%) in the first 20 minutes. Stanley Elliott had 7 points and 4 rebounds and Tobias Mahone had five points and seven rebounds off the bench for the Wildcats.

C.J Reed scored a career-high 23 points and had five assists to lead the Wildcats offensively. He was the only double figure scorer for the "Cats, now 1-4 on the season and B-CU plays Texas Southern in the fourth round Chicago Invitational game, Saturday, 12 EST start.
