B-CU Freshman Named MEAC Pitcher of the Week

Virginia Beach, Va. - Bethune-Cookman University freshman pitcher Allison Garcia has been selected as this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week as announced Thursday afternoon by the conference office in Virginia Beach, Va.

Affectionately known around the B-CU campus as Ally, Garcia is a graduate of the St. Lucy's Priory and is a 5-foot-7 freshman from Chino Hills, Calif. Last week, the freshman hurler collected a perfect 3-0 record in the pitcher's circle and an ERA of 1.47. All of her wins came against conference foe Norfolk State as she helped the Wildcats to start the conference slate at 3-0.

Garcia worked 19 full frames in the circle last week and spread out 17 hits and two walks while collecting nine strikeouts in 84 batters faced. This is her first-ever MEAC Pitcher of the Week award.

Player o the Week honors went to Howard University outfielder Courtney Young as she batted .488on the week and posted 11 hits in 18 trips to the plate. Rookie of the Week honors was awarded to Jennifer Luper of North Carolina A&T as she went 1-1 as a pitcher in 13 innings last week for the Lady Aggies.
