UCF Too Much for Wildcats in Softball, 7-1

April 30, 2008

Box Score

Daytona Beach, Fla. - UCF starting pitcher Allison Kime was nearly unsolvable for the Knights as she led the University of Central Florida to a 7-1 win over Bethune-Cookman University at Sunnyland Park in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Bethune-Cookman (19-34) was almost unable to solve UCF's Allison Kime in the pitcher's circle on Tuesday afternoon. Kime registered 15 strikeouts in the circle while putting on a classic performance.

UCF (41-17) got on the board first in the top-half of the first inning with first baseman Breanne Javier's RBI ground-out to plate Tiffany Lane who singled to start off the frame. That put the Knights up 1-0.

The Knights earned two more runs off B-CU starter Allison Garcia in the fourth when Marquita Council led things off with a bunt single and advanced to second on an error charged to the Wildcats infield. Two batters later, third baseman Hillary Barrow doubled to right field to plate Council before she was returned the scoring favor by teammate Kime who doubled to left.

UCF led 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth frame.

B-CU finally was able to solve the superb pitching of Kime as senior Brandi Holley knocked a single through the right side. That would be all for the `Cats, however, as Kime was able to get out of the frame.

The Knights plated four more runs in the fifth aided by an Abby McClain's two-run homerun--her first of the year.

The Maroon and Gold finally struck the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh as they tried to rally around a Holly Bussey homerun to deep center field. That would be the only score of the game for the `Cats as the final of 7-1 would be it.

The win went to Kime who improved to 26-9 on the year, while B-CU's Allison Garcia took the loss to drop to 15-18.

The Wildcats were led at the plate by Bussey's homerun and Holley's single in the fourth.

Bethune-Cookman finished the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) regular season over the weekend at Florida A&M. B-CU will enter next week's MEAC Tournament as the #1 seed in the Southern Division. Hampton has already claimed the top spot in the Northern Division.

The MEAC Tournament will take place on May 8-11 at the Ormond Beach Sports Complex in Ormond Beach, Fla. For more information, please locate your internet browser to www.MEACsports.com.
