DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - On an extra cold and windy day, the Lady Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman Softball faced a very steep challenge this afternoon as they took on the Fighting Camels of Campbell University. The challenge became more difficult as the offensive output was a stark contrast to recent games on the schedule. Campbell played extremely tough defense, holding the Lady Wildcats to a shutout in each game, winning 7-0, 6-0.

Game One

The first game started well for the Lady Wildcats, holding the Camels in check through the first two innings, allowing no hits. However, in the top of the third, Campbell opened up on offense, getting three hits, two of which were home runs. The Camels grabbed a 3-0 lead and took control of the game. The Lady Wildcats held CU again in the fourth, but the Camels got hot again in the fifth, taking a three-run shot over the fence, en route to taking a 7-0 lead, which they would hold to the game's conclusion.

Campbell shut down the offense of the Lady Wildcats, who only collected three hits in the game. Getting hits for B-CU were Allison Garcia (.269), Liz Parrish (.135), and Ashley Taylor (.238), each with one hit apiece.

Allison Garcia started and finished the game on the mound for B-CU, collecting a season-high (t) eight strikeouts, but allowing seven Earned Runs. Garcia took a line drive to the body in top of the fifth inning, and not only continued, but did not allow another hit the remainder of the game.

Game Two

The second game of the day was nearly a mirror image of the first, with the Lady Wildcats holding tough against Campbell in the first two innings, but did allow runs in the third. However, the Camels had to work hard to earn each one, as there were no home runs allowed in the second game. B-CU held CU scoreless in the fourth, but in the fifth, the Camels put three more runs on the board, taking a 6-0 lead which they carried to the final out.

Offensively, the Lady Wildcats couldn't get anything going, held to just two hits in the second game. Ashley Taylor (.238) both put a hit on the board.

Allison Garcia (3-6) again started and finished the game at pitcher, getting four strikeouts on four Earned Runs. Again, Garcia finished the game strong, only allowing one hit in the final two innings. The losses move her season ERA to 6.34.

The Lady Wildcats (5-14) return to action this weekend, as they travel to Tallahassee for the Florida State Tournament, March 5-8. B-CU will face off with Florida State, Middle Tennessee State, and Troy, beginning with FSU, Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
