VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - MEAC officials announced Monday evening all-conference honors for the past week. Bethune-Cookman Pitcher Allie Garcia received the MEAC's first conference accolades of the 2009 season. Garcia, a 5'7" sophomore from Chino Hills, Calif., picked up back-to-back wins with victories over Norfolk State last week. She pitched 15 innings with an ERA of 1.00 and shut out the Spartans in the first game. She faced 61 batters, striking out 10, and allowed just one earned run in the doubleheader. She also proved to be an impact at the plate as she finished with a .571 hitting average, posting two doubles and two RBI.
Joining Garcia in this week's honors are North Carolina A&T State's Tangie Conover, who earned MEAC Softball Player of the Week honors, and Jasmin Donaldson of Florida A&M, who was named the Rookie of the Week.
After finishing out the home series with Norfolk State Monday afternoon, 2-1, Garcia and the Wildcats return to action in the upcoming weekend as they travel to face South Carolina State, April 4-5.
