SANTA CLARA, Calif. – C.J. Reed's career-high couldn't match Santa Clara's second-half shooting as the Broncos pulled away to a 75-61 victory Sunday night in the Leavey Center in the iBAN Sports Las Vegas Invitational opener for both teams.

Kevin Foster's 21 points led four players in double figures as Santa Clara (3-1) shot 78.9 percent from the field (15-19), including 6-8 from 3-point range to pull away in the final 10 minutes.

Foster himself was 6-10 from three-point range, but had help in the second half as Ben Dowdell scored all 10 of his points and Evan Roquemore all of his 13. Marc Trasolini finished with 13.

B-CU (2-1) led 29-27 at halftime and 42-40 on a Garrius Holloman lay-up with 12:01 remaining before Santa Clara went on a 15-6 run to take control.

“We had the game at the pace we wanted to play in the first half,” said B-CU coach Clifford Reed. “In the second half, we allowed them to get out in transition and after we got behind, we had to scramble. They wore us down with offensive rebounds and pounding the ball inside.”

Spoiled in the loss was a 29-point effort from Reed, who eclipsed his previous high of 27 against Texas Pan-Am. He had 16 in the first half. He finished 9-22 from the field and 8-8 from the line.

“He played pretty strong for us,” Coach Reed said of his son. “Santa Clara made a concerted effort to slow him down by putting a bigger guy on him defensively. That's when we needed other guys to step up.”

Holloman was the only other Wildcat in double figures with 11. Alexander Starling had a game-high eight  rebounds.

B-CU travels to face Arizona Tuesday as the tournament continues as campus sites before switching to the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas Friday.
