BOCA RATON, Fla. – Jasmine Elum and Jalisa Isaac returned to double-figure scoring in Sunday's 68-46 loss at Florida Atlantic, but not the way Bethune-Cookman Head Coach Vanessa Blair would prefer to see.

“It's under duress,” Blair said of her two top scorers. “We're shooting the not in the flow of an offense, but in desperation. “I'll be happier when we're executing the offense better than what we've shown.”

After a combined 3-22 shooting effort Thursday against USF, Elum finished with 15 points while Isaac scored 12 of her 14 in the second half.

A shorthanded B-CU (1-2) squad started three newcomers and Isaac, who sat out last year to go with Elum. At times, the Lady Wildcats had four freshmen on the court.

“When you're out four starters, you're dependent heavily on players who came from high school last year,” Blair said. “It's really taken those players time to caught up to the college game. And the only thing that'll get them caught up is experience and time.”

FAU (3-1) held B-CU to 32 percent shooting and 15 first-half points while outrebounding the Lady Wildcats 42-22.

After Elum scored after the opening tip, the Owls rattled off 14 straight points to take a 14-2 lead with 13:46 left.

B-CU trailed by as many as 29, but got it back to 21 at 54-33 with 8:21 remaining on an Amber Antoine lay-up

The Lady Wildcats return home to host Palm Beach Atlantic Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
