DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Tuesday's lesson for the young Bethune-Cookman squad was about free throw shooting down the stretch.

Palm Beach Atlantic made its final six attempts from the line in the final 2:31 and was 19-23 for the game to claim a 59-56 road win over the Lady Wildcats Bethune-Cookman in historic Moore Gym.

"We knew coming in that [Palm Beach Atlantic] were solid from the line," said B-CU coach Vanessa Blair. They shoot 90 percent and were right around that tonight."

The Sailfish got to the line five more times than B-CU, which lost its third straight.

"Defensively, we had a time with trying to contain our man and not put them on the line," Blair said. "That was a problem for us."

Trailing 57-53, B-CU closed to one point on Jasmine Elum's three-pointer with 15.4 seconds remaining. PBA's Lynsey Poole made two free throws with 11 seconds to play to push the visitors lead to three, and B-CU's final shot attempts went off the mark.

Jordan Kong led PBA (2-2) with 16 points.

Elum led B-CU with 18 points, followed by Sharnese Neal with a 14-10 double-double. Jalisa Isaac scored eight points and Karia Samples-Smart grabbed ten rebounds.

Elum had 10 first-half points as B-CU jumped out to a 24-11 lead on a Samples-Smart lay-up with 6:50 to go. PBA closed to half with a 13-3 run that cut the Lady Wildcats' halftime lead to 31-30.

B-CU travels to UCF next Wednesday.
