DAYTONA BEACH , Fla. – Whitney Wiley's 20 points led four South Carolina State players in double-figures as the Lady Bulldogs spoiled Bethune-Cookman's senior day with a 64-60 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory in the Ocean Center Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (9-16 overall, 5-10 conference) took the lead on a Wiley layup with 4:45 left and led by as many as five down the stretch.
B-CU (12-13,5-10) closed to 62-60 on a Jasmine Elum three-point play with six seconds left, but two Paris Alston free throws clinched it for the visitors.
B-CU jumped out to a 16-2 lead in the first half. After SCSU tied it at 18, B-CU reopened a 34-23 advantage before settling for a 34-30 halftime lead.
“Mentally, we didn't stay in the game,” said B-CU coach Jasmine Daniels and Sarah Bolden in pre-game ceremonies.
Bolden registered her 1,000th career point on a lay-up 4:14 into the game. Freshman Amanda Hairston double-doubled for B-CU with 17 points and 15 rebounds. Elum scored 15 and Bolden 11.
