Coleman Triple-Doubles In 85-72 Win Over Webber

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Adrien Coleman registered a triple-double of 18 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists; and Alex Smith double-doubled with career-highs of 24 points and 10 rebounds as Bethune-Cookman defeated Webber International 85-72 Saturday afternoon.

Coleman, a 6-5 junior from Atlanta,  posted the first triple-double in school history as the Wildcats (4-6) won their second straight.

B-CU had three other players in double-figures: Paul Scotland (14) and Kevin Dukes and Marc Mack with 10 each.

Brian Pace had 20 of his game-high 31 in the first half as Webber enjoyed an early 15-8 lead.

Trailing 35-30, Bethune-Cookman closed the first half with a 9-1 run to take a 39-36 halftime lead.

In the second half, B-CU opened up a 44-42 lead into a 56-45 advantage on a Smith lay-up with 14:38 left.  Webber got no closer than six points after that.

B-CU travels to UCF Wednesday night.

“It's always tough when you're not in school and the fans' aren't here. At the same time, if you  want to be a championship team you don't worry about who is in the stands or who the opponent is. You do the things you need to do get better.”

“When you're not focused, you don't shoot the ball. We had no energy today.”

“Adrien's triple-double doesn't surprise me. He's been our most consistent player. He makes good decisions on the break.”

ADRIEN COLEMAN:

“We were sharing the ball … we could have done way better. I don't know what happened tonight.”

“We gave up a lot a points on defense. We can't do that in the conference.”

“I felt like I had to step  up. Four blocks is what coaches recruited me to do.”

NOTES:  Coleman's 15 boards and 10 assists were career-highs; this was the fifth time this season he has been in double figure scoring and rebounding .… The triple-double is the fourth in the NCAA this season ... Other career highs: Mack's 10 points, Scotland's five rebounds and Smith's four blocked shots … Dukes was just 2-12 from three-point range, but managed to extend his consecutive games with a three-pointer streak to 30. Pace was 7-9 from the field in the first half, but made just two of his nine attempts in the second … B-CU held Webber to 30 percent field goal shooting (9-30) in the second half… The Wildcats had season team highs for rebounds (50), assists (22) and steals (14) …B-CU is now 4-0 when scoring 70 or more.
