Softball Splits With Providence, Minnesota at FAU

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman registered a split of Saturday's games at the Embassy Suites Classic, defeating Providence 6-1 before falling 13-0 to Minnesota.

B-CU 6 PROVIDENCE 1

Michelle Banuelos-Smith homered as Bethune-Cookman downed Providence.

Ferguson's first-inning triple gave B-CU a 2-0 lead then the Wildcats scored three in the third to open up a five-run lead. Banuelos-Smith led off with a homer, then Lara Reese doubled home Tafoya.

Calesha Shelley, who went 3-4, scored the final run in the seventh.

Shanel Tolbert scattered eight hits for the victory.

MINNESOTA 13 B-CU 0

Kari Drole homered twice for five runs in a nine-run Minnesota fifth that allowed the Gophers to run-rule the Wildcats. Banuelos-Smith and Ferguson had doubles for B-CU.

FRIDAY'S GAMES

BOSTON COLLEGE 4 B-CU 1

Tolbert limited ACC power Boston College to four hits and struck out for as the Wildcats battled with the Eagles in the tournament opener for both teams. Kelsey Rodney scored B-CU's lone run on a wild pitch in the sixth.

FAU 9 B-CU 0

The host Owls scored in all five innings. Reese had two of B-CU's five hits. B-CU (6-19) faces Providence again Sunday at 9 a.m.
