Softball Battles #17 USF Before Falling 3-1

TAMPA - Bethune-Cookman held 17th-ranked USF to three hits, but the Bulls used a leadoff hit batter and an unearned run to pull away to a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats Wednesday.

B-CU (24-24) tied the game at 1-1 in the fourth when Michelle Banuelos-Smith, moved to third on Sabrina Ferguson's single and scored on Karina Romero's sacrifice fly.

The Bulls (41-8) answered two runs in the bottom half of the inning and kept B-CU at bay.

The Wildcats had a scoring opportunity in the sixth, but Kelsey Rodney was thrown out at home trying to score from first on Romero's double.

Calesha Shelley had a single and a stolen base for B-CU, who outhit USF 6-3. Shanel Tolbert gave up one unearned run in the loss.
