HAMPTON, Va. – Barry Smith had team-highs of 12 points and eight rebounds in Bethune-Cookman's 85-52 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss to Hampton Monday night.
Reggie Price scored 10 of his career-high 16 points in the first half and Hampton never trailed Brian Darden hit three 3-point shots in the game's first 3:07 as the Pirates (5-5, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) jumped out to an 11-2 lead and never looked back.
Daquan Brown's layup with 10:32 left in the first half pulled Bethune-Cookman (2-10, 0-2) within four, 14-10, but the Pirates scored 20 of the next 22 points and went into halftime leading 47-25.
Lawrence Cooks lead all scorers with 17 points, also a career-high, for Hampton. Du'Vaughn Maxwell added 12 points and Deron Powers had 11. Maxwell blocked seven shots.
Mikel Trapp and Troy Simmons each scored nine points for the Wildcats, who dropped their eight straight.
Bethune-Cookman continues its 12-game road trip Saturday at Akron.
NOTES: Trapp had a career-high seven rebounds ... The Wildcats shot a season low 27 percent from the field ... Smith logged 40 minutes in his first start of the season.
