AKRON, Ohio – Barry Smith matched his season high of 14 points in Bethune-Cookman's 84-56 loss to Akron Saturday night.
The Wildcats (2-11) dropped their ninth straight.
Demetrius Treadwell made all seven field goal attempts, and was four of six from the line to lead Akron (3-2) with 19 points. The Zips built a 52-21 halftime lead.
Nick Harney scored 15 points, and Deji Ibitayo added 11 for Akron. Quincy Diggs scored nine points, all coming from 3-point range.
Troy Simmons' lay-up with 15:19 remaining in the first half tied it at 15-15, but the Wildcats managed just six points the rest of the half. Akron scored seven unanswered points and pulled away.
Malik Jackson added 12 points for B-CU. Smith also had four rebounds and three steals as he posted his third double-figure scoring effort in the last four games. Clemmye Owens scored seven.
B-CU faces Youngstown State Tuesday night.
