DELAND, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman dropped a pair of 3-2 losses
to Dartmouth and host Stetson at the Hatter Classic Friday.
The Wildcats (1-10) have now lost four consecutive one-run
games. The last three have been by identical 3-2 scores.
Calesha Shelley had a combined five hits for B-CU, who stranded
24 runs over the course of Friday's games.
DARTMOUTH 3, B-CU 2
Against Dartmouth, B-CU posted a season-high nine hits..
The Wildcats tied the game in the fifth when Aurelia Gamch
singled home Wanda Darby and took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Michelle
Banuelos-Smith led off with a double and scored on Shelley's bunt single.
Dartmouth (1-0) regained the lead with a two-run double in
the bottom of the sixth.
Shelley, Gamch, and Banuelos-Smith each had two hits for the
Wildcats.
STETSON 3, B-CU 2
The host Hatters (3-5) used a pair of homers to take an
early 3-0 lead, but Samantha Gale kept Stetson scoreless the final five innings
as the Wildcats tried to come back.
B-CU closed to 3-1 in the third when Kelsey Rodney scored on
Shamaria Engram's bases-loaded walk.
In the sixth, Shelley led off with a single and scored on
Simone Ceasar's bunt single to make it a 3-2 game.
Shelley made a catch at the wall in the seventh to keep it a
one-run game, but the Wildcats were retired in order.
Shelley went 3-5 for B-CU, while Gamch and Ceasar had two
hits apiece.
The Wildcats return
to Stetson Saturday and will face Dartmouth and Stetson again at 1:30 and 6:30
p.m., respectively.
