LOS ANGELES - Bethune-Cookman dropped a doubleheader to
Loyola Marymount Tuesday afternoon during its California swing.
The Lions (13-11) took the first game 5-4 in nine innings
then claimed a 7-1 decision in the night cap.
Shamaria Engram gave the Wildcats (3-19) a 2-0 second inning
lead with a two-run homer to left, but the Lions answered with two runs in the
second and another in the third for a 3-2 lead.
Michelle Banuelos-Smith tied the game in the fourth when she
scored on a passed ball.
Kelsey Rodney led off the sixth with a double and scored on
Melissa Berouty's single to tie the game 4-4 in the sixth.
In the second game, B-CU registered 10 hits - three by
Aurelia Gamch and two each from Simone Ceasar, Engram and Sophia Ortega - but managed
just one run when Gamch drove home in Engram in the fifth.
B-CU's six-game road trip concludes Wednesday at
UC-Riverside.
