DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Michelle Banuelos-Smith had four RBI on the day, but Bethune-Cookman was swept by Cornell 6-3 and 7-3 in a doubleheader Monday at Sunnyland Park.
The Big Red improved to 8-7 while the Wildcats slipped to 3-22 with their 11th consecutive loss.
GAME 1
Cornell took a 6-0 lead with four runs in the third and two more in the fifth.
Kelsey Rodney was B-CU's first baserunner when she drew a leadoff walk in the fifth. Banuelos-Smith followed with a two-run homer to left.
In the sixth, Wanda Darby scored on an outfield error after Aurelia Gamch's single.
GAME 2
The Wildcats took an early 3-0 lead before the Big Red rallied with a five-run seventh inning.
Banuelos-Smith put B-CU up 2-0 when she doubled home Gamch and Simone Ceasar in the first. Shamaria Engram manufactured a run in the second when she drew a lead off walk, advanced over tothird and scored on a wild pitch.
B-CU turned a double play in the fifth to get out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam, but Cornelll aunched two homers in the seventh to take the sweep.
B-CU hosts Monmouth Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
