DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman split a doubleheader
with Monmouth Tuesday afternoon at Sunnyland Park, winning the opener 4-2
before dropping an 8-2 decision in the second game.
The Wildcats (4-24) snapped an 11-game losing streak with
its victory. Monmouth is now 9-4.
GAME 1
Michelle Berouty scored on an error, Calesha Shelley scored
on Simone Ceasar's single, Aurelia Gamch
scored on Kelsey Rodney's single, and
Sophia Ortega's bases loaded walk brought in Ceasar.
Samantha Gale and Shanel Tolbert combined on a five-hitter
for the victory.
GAME 2
The Hawks rapped 13 hits – all singles – as they opened up a
5-0 lead after five innings.
B-CU got on the board in the sixth when Ortega singled home
Gamch and Shamaria Engram brought home Rodney with a single.
The Wildcats now travel to Boca Raton for this weekend's
Florida Atlantic tournament, opening with Iowa State Friday at 12:15 p.m.
