HAMPTON, Va. - Bethune-Cookman's 11-point second half lead faded Monday night as Hampton posted a 75-66 victory over the Wildcats in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game.
Deron Powers scored 17 points as the Pirates (14-15,11-4) shot 54.5 percent from the field in the second half for their first victory over the Wildcats in the last four meetings.
Adrien Coleman had a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats, now 12-18 overall and 7-8 in conference play.
Bethune-Cookman led 43-32 on a Coleman lay-up with 17:32 to play, but Hampton rallied to take a 50-49 lead on a Wesley Dunning lay-up with 11:19 left.A Javoris Bryant lay-up helped the Wildcats regain the lead, but Hampton scored the next five points and never trailed the rest of the way.
Bryant's two free throws with 4:21 remaining closed it to 65-63, but B-CU didn't score again until a Ricky Johnson three-pointer with 48 seconds left as Hampton pulled away at the free throw line.
Bryant double-doubled with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while freshman Allan Dempster had a career-high 14 for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats conclude the regular season Thursday at Coppin State.
