DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman takes a three-game winning streak in a Wednesday non-conference matchup with Jacksonville. First pitch is 4 p.m. at Sunnyland Park.
Both teams are coming off successful weekend. The Wildcats (8-27) took two games in their Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener against North Carolina Central (game three was cancelled) while the Dolphins (26-10) extended their winning streak with a three-game road Atlantic Sun sweep at Mercer.
THIRD TIME AT THIRD SITE: This is the third meetings between the squads. Jacksonville took a 2-0 decision in Tallahassee on Feb. 9 and a 3-2 win Feb. 17 in Jacksonville.
ABOUT JU: The Dolphins are currently ranked 42nd in the NCAA's latest RPI index. Sarah Simon and Ashley Simon pace the offense with averages of .396 and .380, respectively. Cecil Gomez' 8-0 record and 1.73 ERA leads the pitching staff.
B-CU UPDATE: Michelle Banuelos-Smith continues to pace the Wildcats, leading the team with a .313. average in addition to team-highs in doubles (7), home runs (4) and RBI (17). Simone Ceasar hit .625 (5-8) last weekend at North Carolina Central, while Kelsey Rodney had a season-high four RBI in an 11-4 B-CU win. Calesha Shelley is in a four-way tie for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference stolen base lead with 17.
