@BCUhoops Wins 2nd Straight; Downs Howard 58-47

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Mikel Trapp scored 16 points as Bethune-Cookman used a strong second half defensive effort to down Howard 58-47 Monday night.

The Wildcats (4-19,2-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) limited the Bison (5-16,3-3) to 19 second half points – 10 of those free throws – as Bethune-Cookman won its second straight game.

Malik Jackson posted a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds and Maurice Taylor added 10 for Bethune-Cookman. Trapp finished with five three-pointers.

James Daniel, Howard's leading scorer, did not make a field goal, but scored 14 points from the line. Emanuel Okoro also scored 14.

Bethune-Cookman trailed 28-22 at halftime, but took a 35-33 lead on a Taylor lay-up with 9:33 remaining and never trailed again.

The Wildcats host Savannah State Saturday.

 

NOTES: Howard's 47 points were the lowest for a B-CU opponent this season... B-CU's 36-33 advantage on the board was its first in 9 games ... Howard's 23 turnovers were the most
for a B-CU opponent and marked the fourth straight game the Wildcats have committed less turnovers ... Jackson's 12 boards were a career-high as he marked his first career double-double and the team's second this seaason ... Trapp had a career high with his
five three-pointers.
