UNF Downs @BCUhoops Despite Dear's Double-Double

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Delino Dear posted his first double-double at Bethune-Cookman Wednesday, but the Wildcats dropped a 63-56 loss to North Florida in Moore Gym.

The transfer from Toledo matched his career highs of 19 points and 12 rebounds. Dear was 8-11 from the field.

Clemmye Owens added 12 points for the Wildcats, now 2-6.

Jalen Nesbitt led four North Florida players in double figures with 14 points and the Ospreys (5-3)  won their fourth straight.  Chris Davenport added 13 points, Trent Mackey 12 and Romelo Banks 10.

 The Ospreys led by three at halftime and built their lead to 12 with 14:32 remaining in the game. The Wildcats followed with an 8-0 run that cut it to 42-34 on a Dear top-in with 10:06 to  play.

Owens'  3-pointer closed the gap to 53-50 with 3:13 left but the Ospreys responded with four points from Nesbitt and a 3-pointer from Mackey to go up 10 with 1:13 left.

In the first half, Mikel Trapp's jumper  gave Bethune-Cookman an early 8-7 lead, but the Ospreys scored the next nine points and never trailed again.

The Wildcats got it down it two points twice in the final minute of the first half, and 28-27 on a Owens jumper to start the second half, but could never take the lead.

Ricky Johnson finished with nine points and Quintin Brewer eight points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats, who made just one three-pointer in 12 attempts.

Bethune-Cookman hosts Jacksonville Saturday at 4 p.m.
