DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Clemmye Owens scored 19 points, and Ricky Johnson scored six of his 12 from the free throw line in the four minutes as Bethune-Cookman held off Jacksonville 52-47 Saturday afternoon in Moore Gym.
Johnson went 10-11 from the line to help the Wildcats (3-6) snap a three-game losing streak.
Owens scored 15 in the first half as Bethune-Cookman hit five of its first seven shots to jump out to an early 13-5 lead. Jacksonville (2-7) closed to 16-12 and 20-16, but the Wildcats opened up a 31-16 lead on Maurice Taylor's lay-up with 2:40 remaining. The Wildcats led 35-21 at halftime.

In the second half, Bethune-Cookman made just two field goals, allowing Jacksonville to get as close as 44-43 on a Kori Babineaux lay-up with 4:51 remaining.
Owens hit a jumper, then Johnson, who has made 93 percent of his free throws in the final three minutes during his career, sank two to give Bethune-Cookman a 48-43 lead with 3:17 left. Two Johnson free throws with 16 seconds left clinched the victory.
Mikel Trapp added 10 points for the Wildcats.
Babineaux led Jacksonville with 17, followed by Marcel White with 10.
The Wildcats begin Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play Monday night at South Carolina State.
NOTES: Jacksonville's 47 points were the fewest by a B-CU opponent this season ... B-CU's 35-21 halftime lead was its first of the season ... Johnson had 10 FT in a game against Savannah State his freshman season in 2012 ... Owens has led the team in scoring three times.
