JACKSONVILLE -- Bethune-Cookman' third tournament of the 2014 season takes the Wildcats to the Jacksonville University Wingate by Wyndham Tournament beginning Friday.
The Wildcats (1-9) face Southern Illinois (4-5) Friday at 2 p.m. On Saturday, B-CU meets Illinois Chicago (1-9) at 9 a.m. followed by a rematch with Southern Illinois at 1:30 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday with an 11:15 a.m. game against Mt. Saint Mary's (0-0) and a 1:30 finale against the host Dolphins (5-5).
B-CU UPDATE: Calesha Shelley leads the Wildcats with a .400 average. She had a three-hit game and a four-hit game – both against Elon – in last week's Hatter Invitational. Bailey Connor leads the team with five RBI. Shamaria Engram has a three-game hitting streak going.
ABOUT SIU: The Salukis finished the UNF Osprey Invitational 2-3, downing Savannah State twice .
ABOUT UIC: UIC went 0-5 last weekend at the UCF Holiday Inn Classic. The Flames enter with a 1-9 record. Senior Jacki Fletcher led the Flames on offense, going 7-for-14 at the plate for a .500 batting average, as she continues to hold the best average on the season at .467.
ABOUT MSM: It's opening weekend for the Mountaineers. The Mountaineers went 16-30 last year and bring back seven starters, including the team's top pitcher, Nicole Pagano.
ABOUT JU: Jacksonville is coming off a 2-2 performance at the JU Tournament and a 6-0 loss at No. 1 Florida. At the plate this season, Codi Kelly boasts a .387 average with 12 hits, three runs and four RBI.
