DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Mikel Trapp scored 26 and Clemmye Owens a career-high 24,but Bethune-Cookman fell 80-75 to Florida A&M in the Ocean Center Saturday.
Trapp's three-pointer with 2:17 gave the Wildcats (6-23,4-10 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 71-70 lead, but consecutive three-pointers from Reggie Lewis (20 points) and Jamie Adams (26) put the Rattlers (11-16,7-7) ahead 76-71.
Trapp connected on two free throws with 28 seconds to make it 76-73, but the Wildcats could come no closer.
Trapp also had a career-high eight rebounds for the Wildcats, who led 31-23 on a Trapp lay-up with 2:16 remaining in the first half.
Florida A&M took a 34-33 lead on an Adams lay-up a minute in the second half, and the Rattlers managed a pair of seven points leads before the final B-CU rally.
Trapp gave B-CU a 54-51 lead at 11:07 to play with a three-pointer, but the Rattlers scored six unanswered points and would control the game down the stretch.
Owens was 10-13 from the field. Troy Simmons dished out five assists.
B-CU faces Morgan State next Saturday.
