@BCUsoftball Takes Two At FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman won both its games Friday at the FGCU/Four Points By Sheraton Tournament, downing Eastern Michigan 6-0 and Long Island-Brooklyn 5-2.

The Wildcats (4-12) have now won three of their last four.

B-CU 6, EASTERN MICHIGAN 0

Bailey Conner threw her second straight shutout as the Wildcats managed a split with the Eagles (6-9) after EMU posted a 9-8 decision in nine innings the night before.

The freshman scattered five hits, walked three and struck out three while aiding her own cause with RBI singles in the first and fourth.

Kelsey Rodney also drove in two runs, one on a fourth-inning double, and leadoff hitter Calesha Shelley paced B-CU's 11-hit offense by going 3-3.

B-CU broke open a 1-0 game with a three-run second. Shamaria Engram scored on single by Breanna Chavez, who scored on a Rodney single. Destinee Williams crossed on a Kaitlin Alamprese single to conclude the inning's scoring.

Rodney's double and Conner's single in the fourth pushed the B-CU lead to 6-0.

B-CU 5, LIU-BROOKLYN 2

Two early Alamprese RBI paced a balanced Wildcat offense, and Sabrina Anguiano picked up her first collegiate victory as the Wildcats pulled away from the Blackbirds.

Alamprese doubled home Rodney in the first, then brought home Shelley in the third, giving B-CU a 2-1 lead.

Williams scored on a fifth-inning error to make it 3-1, then B-CU added two insurance runs in the sixth on a RBI triple from Sophia Ortega and a Chavez single.

Alamprese, Rodney and Williams each had two hits.

Anguiano, a freshman, gave up no walks and didn't let an opposing runner get to third between the second and fifth.

The Wildcats conclude the tournament Saturday facing Michigan State at 10 a.m. and Hofstra at 2:30 p.m.
