Dear Student-Athlete:
Institutional control of athletics is a fundamental requirement of NCAA legislation. Specifically, the NCAA Constitution provides that each institution monitor its program to insure compliance with NCAA rules and regulations.
Our student-athletes are educated each year on the proper procedures if contacted by an agent, or representative. Any information that you would like to provide for the student-athlete may be mailed to the attention of the athletic compliance office, which will be forwarded and reviewed with each student-athlete.
The administration and coaches at B-CU are well aware of the fact that the majority of those engaged in representing professional athletes provide valuable services to their clients. However, due to the increasing number of problems involving agents and their intermediaries that have taken place throughout our country over the past few years; we have decided to take a pro-active stance. Our policies have been developed to provide a means by which we can protect our student-athlete and our institution from those who would conduct themselves in a less than ethical manner.
The department of athletics has no attention of creating barriers between our student-athletes and those who can provide valuable services to them. But in order to allow our student-athletes to focus upon their academic and athletic pursuits as they complete their careers with our athletics program, we stipulate that both our student-athletes and those who desire to represent them adhere to the policies.
Bethune-Cookman University Regulations:
1. Bethune-Cookman University requests that all athlete-agents who are interested in representing its student-athletes provide a copy of their State of Florida agent license to the B-CU Office of Athletics Compliance.
2. All athlete-agents that are also contract advisors must submit certifications from their applicable players' association (e.g. NFLPA, NBPA, MLBPA).
