@BCUsoftball Splits With UT-Martin

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman matched its season high offensive output in the second game  of Tuesday's doubleheader with Tennessee-Martin, taking the nightcap 8-6 after dropping the opener 8-0.

A six-run rally on two outs gave the Wildcats (6-14)  a 6-1 advantage.  After an RBI single from Sophia Ortega and bases loaded walk from Calesha Shelley, Kelsey Rodney smacked a bases-loaded double and scored on a Kaitlin Alamprese single to highlight the Wildcats' biggest scoring inning of the year.

UT-Martin closed to 6-4 in the third, and B-CU answered with RBI singles from Ortega and Destinee Williams.

Bailey Conner picked up her fourth win, striking out a season-high seven. She kept the damage to a minimum in the seventh inning after the Skyhawks loaded the bases with no outs, giving up just one run.

Rodney, Conner, Ortega and Williams each had two hits in the second game. The Wildcats scored eight runs last week in an extra-inning loss to Eastern Michigan.

The Wildcats managed just one hit against the Skyhawks (6-10-1) in the opener.

B-CU hosts UMass-Lowell in a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
