AGENTS
During your child's collegiate enrollment, he or she might be contacted by a sports agent, financial advisor or "runner" (i.e. someone acting on behalf of a sports agent). These individuals may be seeking to represent your child for the purpose of marketing his or her athletics ability if he or she shows the potential to be a professional athlete." Agents or their representatives may have contacted your child already. This is an attempt to gain an advantage over other individuals who may also seek to represent your child in the future. Often these individuals will not identify themselves as agents, but rather as individuals interested in your child's overall welfare and athletics career. These individuals also may attempt to provide gifts or benefits to you, your child, and your family. Your child's eligibility to compete in intercollegiate athletics will be jeopardized if you or your child agrees (orally or in writing) to be represented by an agent, regardless of whether the agreement becomes effective immediately or after your child's final season of eligibility. Your child's eligibility also will be jeopardized if your child, family or friends accept gifts or benefits of any type from an agent or runner. If any individual contacts you or your child about marketing your child's athletics ability, please be careful.
