The Longest Day: B-CU Outlasted By UNF

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman dropped a 2-1 decision to North Florida Wednesday in a 12-inning contest – the longest in Wildcat history.

North Florida (23-18) used consecutive doubles from Danica Mandaro and Ashley Holton to break a 1-1 tie. The Wildcats (15-24) loaded the bases on Breanna Chavez and Destinee Williams walks followed by a Calesha Shelley infield single, but the Ospreys registered a double play on an outfield liner to preserve the victory.

Shelley had three hits and scored the lone run for the Wildcats, who got runners into scoring position in the seventh and tenth, and had a chance to win in the 11th, but Kaitlin Alamprese was thrown out at the plate after Melissa Berouty's singles.

Bailey Conner and Sabrina Anguiano combined for 10 strikeouts.

The 12 innings surpassed the previous high of 11 on two occasions, a March 6, 2002 victory over Florida A&M (4-3) and a 2000 loss (4-3) to FIU. The game time of three hours, seven minutes was the second longest behind a 4:05 rain delayed game against Howard in the 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament.

B-CU returns to action April 15 against UCF.
