@BCUsoftball Sweeps Aggies 7-3,1-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman swept a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division doubleheader Friday at North Carolina A&T, taking a 7-3 decision in the opener and a 1-0 win in the nightcap.

The Wildcats (17-25 overall, 7-1) ended a three-game losing streak with the win in the opener and extended their division lead to two and a half games over the Aggies (14-6-5) and idle Savannah State (21-17,5-4).

GAME ONE

Melissa Berouty had two of her three hits in the seventh inning as Bethune-Cookman pulled away from a 1-1 tie.

Berouty led off the seventh with a single. Shanel Tolbert was inserted as a pinch runner, and scored when Calesha Shelley reached on an error to make it a 2-1 game.

Kelsey Rodney, Kaitlin Alamprese, Bailey Conner, Sabriano Anguiano and Berouty strung together consecutive RBI singles  as the Wildcats pulled away.

Sophia Ortega gave Bethune-Cookman a 1-0 lead in the second with her first home run of the season, a one-out shot to right center.

Anguiano got the win, walking none and striking out three.

GAME TWO

Conner threw a three-hit shutout and Sabrina Anguiano hit her first career home run as the Wildcats concluded the sweep.

Conner, who leads the conference in shutouts with five, walked one and struck out three while not an Aggie base runner to get past second.

Anguiano's leadoff homer to left was all the Wildcats needed offensively. She was 2-3 in the second game

Shelley and Destinee Williams also had two hits for the Wildcats.

The series concludes Saturday at noon.
